FAQs

You should see a cardiologist if you experience persistent chest pain, shortness of breath, or unexplained dizziness. Additionally, if you have a family history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes, a preventative cardiac evaluation is recommended to manage your long-term heart health.
Early signs of a heart attack can include pressure or squeezing in the center of the chest, pain radiating to the jaw, neck, or left arm, and cold sweats. Women may also experience "atypical" symptoms like extreme fatigue, nausea, or back pain. If you suspect a heart attack, call 911 immediately.
Lowering blood pressure involves a combination of the DASH diet (high in fruits, vegetables, and lean protein), reducing daily sodium intake to under 2,300mg, and engaging in at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise per week. Managing stress and limiting alcohol are also critical factors.
For most healthy adults, a normal resting heart rate ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute (BPM). Highly trained athletes may have resting rates as low as 40 to 60 BPM. If your pulse is consistently above 100 (tachycardia) or below 60 (bradycardia) while resting, you should consult a specialist.
LDL (Low-Density Lipoprotein) is known as "bad" cholesterol because it contributes to fatty buildups in arteries (atherosclerosis). HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) is "good" cholesterol because it carries LDL away from the arteries and back to the liver to be broken down.
